Tree Facts When a tree is planted, it takes years to recover from the stress. Roots must become adjusted to the new site and establish the ability to obtain nutrients from the soil. Depending on the size of the tree, it may take up to seven years before it grows. A rough rule of thumb is "for each inch of trunk diameter, allow one year for the tree roots to establish."
In spite of the term "Evergreen" all coniferous trees naturally will have seasonal browning and can lose up to 30% of their needles in autumn. These brown needles will fall off during late autumn wind storms, making trees appear "healthy" again.
